Vision
AI-driven protein design is rapidly becoming a practical technology for creating proteins with new structures, interactions, and functions. At the same time, successful protein design requires increasingly complex computational pipelines, substantial computing resources, protein production, and experimental validation – capabilities that are difficult to maintain within a single laboratory.
HuProt-Forge aims to connect complementary expertise and infrastructure in Hungary and develop a shared protein-design ecosystem. Our longer-term goal is to establish a national network – and potentially a distributed core facility – that supports projects from computational design through experimental testing and iterative optimization.
The initiative should make advanced protein-design technologies accessible to academic groups and biotechnology companies while concentrating expertise, infrastructure, and training in a sustainable way.
Where we are now
HuProt-Forge is currently in the network-building and concept-development phase. We are:
- discussing needs and potential collaborations with Hungarian biotechnology companies;
- seeking experimental partners for protein production, purification, biophysical characterization, and functional testing;
- establishing connections with international protein-design experts, networks, and core facilities;
- developing computational protein-design workflows and infrastructure;
- exploring national and European funding opportunities as well as potential investment and industrial partnerships.
